Fears: Overcoming Anxiety with Faith

FEARS

They can consume me.

They can paralyze my momentum.

They can cripple my creativity.

They can limit my God given abilities and roles.

I have all kinds of fears that creep up now and again, and likely they are similar to some of the fears you have too.

Sometimes fear shows on my face and other times it can bottle up and come out like one giant flood of tears and hodge podge thoughts to my husband, Wade.

There is always a single, linear truth that fuels every single one of my fears…and may I be so bold as to tell you that your fear is fueled by the exact same fleshly thing?

Lack of trust in God.

Faith over fear

God Won't Take Away Your Anxiety...Faith & Trust in Him Will

God won’t just up and take away your anxiety when you’re in the middle of a panic attack wondering why you feel so close to dying…unless you remember that he is there and trust in him.

You have to remember that He is there, have faith, and trust that God will take care of you at that moment. You’ll never remember to trust and have full faith in God if you don’t spend time every day building a relationship with Him. Trusting in God can help take away your anxious thoughts and guide you in your struggle with anxiety.

If you take time every day to spend time with the Lord, you’ll find that your feelings of worry start to dissipate. You won’t have any lack of faith in the Lord, because you know that God loves you and God will heal you. Ask the Lord what he needs you to do to feel better in your thoughts. Taking this time to be mindful can greatly help with your mental health and dealing with your anxiety.

Anxiety and God: Spend Time with Him

If you don’t spend time thinking about why you may feel anxious, you won’t ever know how you can make changes in your life to decrease your anxiety levels. Take time and ask God what he wants you to learn from your anxiety or depression. Ask him how you can overcome these anxious feelings.

Living a Balanced Christian Life

Y’all, we have to face these hard parts of our flesh. The longer we bottle them up, the more layers accumulate, and the more difficult it is to peel back the layers to get to the truth.

Think: layer upon layer upon layer of wallpaper that you try to peel back one layer at a time. Painstakingly laborious, no?

I’ll be going into some tips that you can use to not keep these feelings bottled up and live a more balanced Christian Life.

Overcoming Anxiety with God

Story for another day: I 100% self manifested a fear of swimming in the ocean and a fear of long bridges over masses of deep water. It’s taken me years to undo what a handful of fear-filled, toxic, obsessive thoughts in my mid-teens did to my brain.

But, here is just one method I’ve come up with for conquering fear, so I can live life with waayyy more joy!

First, the acronym of FEAR. Fear is powerless when combated with scripture. This acronym does just that. If you are feeling any sort of fear, speak scriptural truth into FEAR, mirroring back God’s character to the letters.

God is:

F-Faithful: Lamentations 3:22-23

E-Ever Present: Psalm 46:1-3

A-Almighty: Jeremiah 32:27

R-Rescuer: Psalm 34:4

Practical Christian Tips for Anxiety

  • Talk to someone. Don’t keep things bottled up.
  • Take a walk and pray. Pray some more.
  • Make a list of your fears and under each one speak biblical truth into them both by putting pen to paper and reading them aloud.
  • Literally take slow, deep breaths. Feel the air circling in your lungs. Invite the Holy Spirit into your soul and thoughts with each deep breath.
  • Eat something you love that is also good for you! Your body will thank you and so will your brain!

I promise you’ll feel better if you put these action steps into play.

Let’s stop fearing the unnecessary fears and work harder every day to step boldly into unapologetic faith-filled steps in Him.

  1. What is so wonderful about this is I put this Lamentation 3:22-23 on our chalkboard this week 😉

    1. It’s amazing how God continues to knit this group of women together over the miles and years. For someone I’ve never met in person, I feel like I’ve known you my whole life!

  2. This is awesome, Erin!

I love the F.E.A.R. acronym and love the balance wheel!

So excited and encouraged to keep working on taking action with a focus on the Lord’s leading in 2023!
